Alex O’Briant is a Principal at Ennead Architects. His award-winning work covers a broad range of typologies, including projects for education, cultural, and civic institutions. As a leading design voice in Ennead’s education practice, he approaches projects collaboratively, with the belief that design and institutional culture can merge to create intellectual communities that prioritize learning over teaching and teamwork over individual achievement. Alex speaks regularly at conferences around the country on his design work and on issues in higher education. He has taught architecture at Rice University and Lehigh University and regularly serves as critic and juror at other schools. He received a Master of Architecture degree from Rice University in 2001 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Birmingham-Southern College in 1994, and has lived and worked in New York, Spain, Texas, and Alabama. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Society for Campus and University Planning.
